Recap

Wisbech Town 0 Frickley 4

A much improved performance and braces from Margs and Nyle-nel Blake got The Blues back to winning (and scoring) ways in deepest, darkest Cambridgeshire, as the basement club, Wisbech Town, were blown away.

Two loanees came into the starting lineup to make their debut for Les Bleus, keeper Jackson Smith from Wolves and frontman Ben Tomlinson from Alfreton Town.

The Azzurri were on the front foot from the off, showing intent that was to continue all afternoon.

The game was only 6 minutes old when Margs rounded the keeper and looked a cert to score before the ball stuck under his feet and the defender got a toe in to avert the danger. But there was no stopping him quarter of an hour later when the keeper darted out to clear but missed the ball, leaving Margs to nip in and roll the ball into an empty net.

The Blues continued to have the upper hand as Fin Shrimpton had a couple of rasping drives at goal, one going wide and the other being saved. The Fenman’s best (only?) chance was pushed to safety by Jackson Smith.

On the stroke of half time, referee Emily Heaslip awarded The Azzurri a free kick 25 yards out. Margs stepped up and arrowed it straight into the top corner to double our advantage. A brilliant goal at any level, truly world class, no-one’s stopping that one!

The second half was a little more attritional, as Wisbech labored to get back into the game. Tomlinson, Margs and Nyle Blake did manage to force the home keeper into action.

However, with 10 minutes go, Margs got free of his marker to shoot from a narrow angle, the keeper made a stop with his feet but Nyle-nel was on hand to snaffle up the loose ball and make it 3-0.

Just as it looked as if we were done for the day, Nyle-nel got on the end of a sweeping move, smashing his effort into the bottom corner to wrap up the scoring.

Four goals, a clean sheet and a performance worthy of the name. We all know that ‘one swallow does not a summer make’ but the temperature is definitely rising!

WEBMASTER MOTM – I could make a case for most but the debutants both did well, Jackson Smith did everything asked of him in goal, the defence can take a bow for making sure he wasn’t asked a lot, whilst Ben Tomlinson tirelessly ratted (Kyle O’Reilly’s word) around up top. The midfield was a well oiled machine too. But the Glitterball this week is a joint one, Jonny Margetts and Nyle Blake taking the honours with their well-taken goals and all-round predatory forward play. Bravo brothers!

TWITTER POLL – the twitterati love a goalscorer too, Margs winning with over half of the vote. Nyle-nel, Ben Tommo, Kegan Everington and Fin Shrimpton also polled. Thanks to everyone who voted.

208 through the gate with a sizeable contingent from WF9. Thank you so much for travelling all that way to support the boys!

We’ll be looking to continue this upturn in form as we take on local rivals, Sheffield FC, on Tuesday evening, 7.45pm ko. Hope to see you there.
